Monthly Meetings March 12, 2007 The meeting was called to order by Mike Watkins, vice president. After the reading of the minutes, motion made, seconded and passed unanimously to accept the minutes as read. Mike Watkins discussed the upcoming event of the of the Chamber of Commerce pertaining to area development. Recreation needs were discussed as necessary for our area. The county commissioners want to establish a recreation lease for Beatty Gulch as that area seems to be of prime interest in the community. Several issues related to a lease by the commissioners of this state land were discussed. Ted Lapis then asked Mike Watkins as he had been in on the talk with the commissioners, if he thought the commissioners were wanting an organization to oversee this recreation lease area. Ted further addressed the point of what questions we would present to the Chamber of Commerce meeting March 29th, i.e. what plans do the commissioners have for the recreation needs of the county, what open spaces are in and around the city? Some members were in favor of attending the Chamber event to present recreation needs for the area, but it will be done by individuals. In a discussion of increasing our exposure to the community, signs being distributed around town was thought to be an inexpensive and effective tool. The need for continued posting of signs marking state lands was brought up. Ted mentioned that corner points are set in the entire county. Ted mentioned that the points not set are ones that the state needs to clarify for those certain spots. To address this issue, Saturday, March 15th, workers will meet at Carl's Corner to head east of town to do more sign hanging. Mike Watkins will contact Jim Whalen about sending/bringing up 300 more signs. And ask for a supply of hardware was added by several in the group because we have individually been paying that expense whereas the state office has assured assistance which has yet to be shown. A short interjection about what should be on the signs placed around town showed that everyone agreed that our logo and website should definitely be displayed. The rest of the design will be left to the talents of Mike Watkins. Gerald Erpelding brought to the group the matter of Game and Fish department closing off Rock Creek Road during pheasant season. He is concerned that the closing may be a prelude to permanent action. Ted told the group that we have 501C3 plus status that lets us legally claim as non-profit organization. Gerald then told the group that some sign had the coordinates washed off the back of the sign, in particular, the signs in the Beatty Gulch area where he had put Crime Stoppers on the signs. The specific type of pen needed for this work was pointed out and shown why it was necessary to use that type only! Motion for adjournment was unanimous. The meeting adjourned at 6:55 p.m. JELo 06/25/2007 |
